La Catrina or skeleton dolls are a common sight during Dia de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead. It is not meant to be macabre, but a celebration of loved ones that have passed. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated November 1st and 2nd with festivals and altars. People often place Catrina dolls along with food, water, and other favorite things of the people that have passed. The Luna fairy is made of polyresin, but has the look and feel of carved wood and is hand-painted in exquisite detail.
